Our smart money analysis found an Ethereum address that uses the Maestro bot to make good sniping profits. We will call this address [ASSASSIN](https://etherscan.io/address/0x991900e54e06e44ee933fcc419e44e253a8f51db) because he is very good at hitting profits.

In a month (from 2024-07-27 to 2024-09-08) the assassin:

* sniped 18 tokens
* with a 77% success ratio
* And made $8500 in pure profits.

It was quite nice for one month using a sniping strategy.

## What is token sniping in crypto?

**Sniping in crypto refers to a trading strategy where someone shoots their shoot on buying a newly launched token on a decentralized exchange (DEX) like Uniswap.** The liquidity is added at the moment, and trading becomes available, often within. Sniping aims to buy the token at the lowest price before the general public can, allowing the sniper to sell it later at a higher price for a quick profit.

**How Sniping Happens:**

1. New Pool Launches: The price is lowest when a new token is listed on a DEX and liquidity is added.
2. Automated Tools: Snipers use bots or automated scripts to scan the blockchain and detect when the token's liquidity is added. This way, they can fire their transaction to submission within milliseconds, trying to outpace other sniping bots and regular human traders.
3. Profit: If the sniper manages to buy tokens at a very low price, he can make huge profits later when he sells them.

**What Snipers Need to Do:**

* Use Sniping Bot/script: The first tool in a sniper's arsenal is a specialized bot designed to monitor the blockchain for new pool launches/liquidity additions. Once the bot spots the right conditions, it automatically executes buy orders quickly to secure tokens before prices rise.
* Track Liquidity Events: The bot constantly scans for liquidity being added to a token pool, ensuring it's ready to strike the moment the opportunity appears.
* Prioritize Speed: Speed is everything in sniping. The bot must be fast enough to get as close as possible to the block producers (or builders), ensuring the transaction goes through at the earliest opportunity - ideally within the first block of the liquidity adding.
* Pay Premium Gas Fees: Snipers often pay higher gas fees to "outpace" the competition. This ensures their transaction is processed sooner, giving them maximum advantage.

The overall idea is that by getting in very early, snipers can benefit from low token prices and sell at a profit once demand increases.

## The true assassin

As mentioned before, [ASSASSIN](https://etherscan.io/address/0x991900e54e06e44ee933fcc419e44e253a8f51db) made $8500 in approximately one month.

His most successful trade was on a token [$SHEESH](https://blokiments.com/detailedView/ethereum?pairAddress=0x9c9573489bc5ed771af97f12180ec45c26c789e5). He bought it initially for $37 and sold it for $2500, a 6800% return on investment 🤯.

He also successfully executed trades on other tokens, such as $SPOTTY, $HACHI, and 14 others. We need to emphasize that the liquidity on the tokens sniped is low, less than $5000, so even small buys or sells have a big impact on price. Also, most of the tokens are dead by now, and he made profits from initial price pumps.

Here is a visual example of when he bought and sold the $[HACHI](https://blokiments.com/detailedView/ethereum?pairAddress=0x4c77eb65ceb6494f68720b306c2708b880953a6b) token:

1. He bought at the very beginning,
2. Sold most of it at the top
3. Later sold the rest

## What can we do about the assassin?

The big question is, how exactly does the ASSASSIN know which token will have a pump, not be rugged, or not be a honeypot from the launch? On average, he buys a token every 2-3 days.

1. Maybe he does very good research or has some kind of advanced tool to do it.
2. He might have some insider information.
3. It is somehow a scam because it sounds too good to be true. To consistently make money on good snipes.

We have not found any evidence that he would be performing a scam or collaborating with a scammer, so we can discard the c option. We are left with a or b or something else we did not consider.

## Copy trading?

If you are like us, you want to make money from trading. Here, we can spot a copy trading opportunity. But there are some caveats: if it was that easy, everyone could copy-trade the ASSASSIN.

One problem with copy trading for this case is that the price rises very fast, within seconds, and if your copy-trading script/bot is not fast enough, you could easily buy the super-inflated price by other sniping bots that also participate in the snipe-off on a token pool launch.

The second problem is the bribes. The Maestro sniping bot (amongst others) pays good bribes to block builders to get their transactions in the first place. That means your transactions will come in later at a higher token price.

### But not all is lost

Another potential strategy is to buy the token minutes after the ASSASSIN buys it, preferably after the inflated snipe price pump. This strategy does not yield the same returns as the assassins' sniping, but it has potential.

We observed that more than half of the tokens he sniped in the following hours or days had a 100%—400% increase in price if you bought them minutes after the initial pump.

The right strategy and further analysis are outside the scope of today's post, so it is up to you to do your research and build your own strategies.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.blokiments.com/guides/blog/smart-token-sniper.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
